Let's get real simple about God's law
Let’s get real simple about this: God’s law says the penalty for sin is death. If you sin, the consequence is death. Simple, right? But here’s the thing - it’s easy to wonder, “Why would God make such a harsh rule?” Or even, “If He loves us, why wouldn’t He just get rid of that law after seeing how much it’s messed us up?”If He loves us, why wouldn’t He just get rid of that law after seeing how much it’s messed us up?
Ok, so here's the deal: a good law is supposed to help and protect people. It creates boundaries to keep us safe, call out what’s wrong, and show us what’s good. God’s law about sin does exactly that. It exposes evil and makes it clear that sin is a big deal. God set a good law when He said that the penalty for sin is death. And here’s something to remember: God never meant for any of us to be guilty of that law.
When God created us, He intended for us to live in harmony with Him, free from sin and the penalty that comes with it. The law was meant to protect us, not to condemn us. Here’s where the problem comes in: the law has no way to forgive us of our guilt. It can point out the wrong, but it can’t fix it. That’s why God sent Jesus. Jesus came to give us a way out from under the law’s penalty.
The law stays in place because it’s still important—it says evil has to be dealt with, and it can’t keep going forever. But the good news is that God doesn’t want us to live under the weight of that penalty. The law was meant to protect us, not punish us forever. So Jesus stepped in. He chose to take the penalty of the law - death - so you wouldn’t have to. This way the law can keep doing its job: identifying evil and showing us the need for something better, but you and I can live free the way God intended for us to be.
Awesome right!?
