Let's get real simple about your life's purpose
Do you ever feel like your life just doesn’t fit in this world? Like your story doesn’t line up the way everyone else’s seems to. While other people move forward with confidence and direction, you’re stuck wondering why you can’t seem to find yours. From the outside, they look perfectly placed. Their jobs make sense. Their friendships look effortless. Their passions seem obvious. They look motivated, fulfilled, and sure of who they are. It’s like they found their calling early on and never looked back.
And then there’s the rest of us.
Some people seem like they were born with a roadmap for life. Others - people like you and me - feel like we missed the memo entirely. We second-guess everything. We struggle to gain traction. We feel behind, out of place, or unsuccessful no matter how hard we try. It’s exhausting. Eventually, the question creeps in: What’s the point of all this? Why am I even here?
That question matters more than you think. So, let’s get real simple about your life’s purpose.
Knowing your purpose is powerful. Without it, every decision feels heavy. Is this the right job? The right relationship? The right direction? When you don’t know why you exist, life feels reactive and chaotic. Hard seasons feel pointless instead of formative. But just because your life hasn’t flowed as smoothly as others - or because you’ve never felt like you fit neatly into it - doesn’t mean your life lacks purpose. It doesn’t mean you missed it. It means you haven’t discovered it yet.
And here’s the truth: your purpose is simpler - and far more powerful - than you’ve been led to believe.
To understand your purpose, you first have to understand what it isn’t.
Your purpose is not your assignments. Assignments are temporary situations - jobs, roles, seasons, or achievements that bring satisfaction or happiness. A lot of people look purposeful when, in reality, they’re just comfortable. They’re getting what they want. That’s not purpose. And honestly, you’re fortunate if you haven’t settled for that. It would be tragic to live an easy life and still miss the reason you were created.
Your purpose also isn’t your sense of belonging. When you don’t feel like you fit in - socially, professionally, or relationally - it’s easy to assume something is wrong with you. That your life must be purposeless. But the absence of belonging does not mean the absence of purpose. Some of the most impactful people who have ever lived were rejected, misunderstood, and isolated for most of their lives. Purpose was never about fitting in. It’s always been bigger than that.
When you don’t know your purpose, you end up living by imitation or envy - trying to copy someone else’s life or wishing you had theirs. That’s why life feels so hard. That’s why nothing feels quite right. Scripture says each of us was created for specific works prepared ahead of time. Once you understand that, you’ll stop trying to live someone else’s story and start honoring your own.
God made purpose accessible to everyone. He knew there would be opposition. He knew there would be an enemy working against your life. So He gave you a purpose no one else could steal from you.
And here’s the moment that changes everything.
Whether your life has been smooth or filled with struggle, everyone faces challenges - big and small. God didn’t give you purpose despite those challenges. He gave you purpose through them. Your purpose is this: to prove His good and perfect will. That’s why you are here. Your life exists to demonstrate God’s will in a way no one else can. Your story is not a copy of someone else’s proof. It’s uniquely yours, given to you so God’s will could be revealed through your circumstances.
Let that sink in.
God Himself has entrusted you to be His proof. That’s why the Bible says your faith is more precious than gold. That’s why the enemy works so hard to keep you confused, discouraged, and disconnected from your purpose. Your life is more than survival. More than success. More than happiness. Your life is an eternal declaration - written into history, displayed by God as something priceless, and marveled at forever.
You are needed in this world.
Your purpose is part of God’s plan, not one that you have to make up on your own. You are needed here by God Himself. That’s why He sent you. No matter how well you fit in, how accepted you feel, or how smooth your life appears, your life has eternal value to Him. You are here to prove His good and perfect will. And no one else can do that but you.
